Sight8 AI Chrome Extension — Privacy Policy

This privacy policy describes what data the Sight8 AI Chrome Extension collects, why, where it goes, and your rights. It supplements (and does not replace) our main Sight8 AI privacy policy.

What the extension does

The extension lets you view an AI brand visibility report for any website you visit. When you click the toolbar icon and press Analyze, the extension sends the domain of the current tab to our analysis service at sight8ai.com/tracker/analyse_guest.php, which queries multiple AI models and returns a visibility report.

What data we collect

1. The domain you analyse

When you press Analyze, we receive the domain (e.g., example.com) you asked to analyse. We do not receive the full URL, the page title, the page content, or anything else about the page.

2. Your IP address

Like every website request, your IP address is visible to our server. We use it solely for rate-limiting (one free analysis per IP without an account) and for security logging. IP addresses are stored alongside analysis records and retained for up to 90 days.

3. Locally-cached results

The extension stores the most recent analysis results in your browser's local extension storage (chrome.storage.local) for up to 24 hours, so reopening the panel for the same domain is instant. This data never leaves your device.

What data we do NOT collect

• The full URL of the page you're on (only the domain)
• Page content, page title, or any DOM information
• Your browsing history
• Cookies or login state from any website
• Personal information unless you create a Sight8 AI account separately
• Form data, keystrokes, screenshots, or anything from other tabs

The extension does not inject content scripts

The extension never injects scripts or modifies content on the websites you visit. It is dormant until you click the toolbar icon. You can verify this in the manifest: there is no content_scripts declaration.

Permissions explained

• tabs — Read the URL of the active tab so we can pre-fill the domain field. Used only when the panel is open.
• storage — Cache analysis results locally for 24 hours. Used only on your device.
• sidePanel — Display the analysis report in Chrome's native side panel.
• contextMenus — Add a right-click "Analyze with Sight8 AI" option.
• host_permissions: https://sight8ai.com/* — Send analysis requests to our API. The extension cannot connect to any other domain.

Third-party services

The extension communicates only with sight8ai.com. The Sight8 AI service in turn calls third-party AI providers (Anthropic, OpenAI, etc.) to perform the analysis. The domain you submit is included in those upstream queries; no other personal data is shared.

Your rights

• Delete cached data — uninstall the extension or clear extension storage in chrome://extensions.
• Delete server-side analysis history — email privacy@sight8ai.com with the IP address or account email used.
• Stop using the extension — uninstall it at any time. We retain no record of which devices have the extension installed.

Children

The extension is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them.

Changes to this policy

We will update the "Last updated" date at the top whenever we revise this policy. Material changes will be communicated through the Chrome Web Store listing description.
